Do you have plans to go out for New Year’s Eve? As you celebrate the end of 2024, be sure to start 2025 safely and responsibly. According to the National Safety Council, on New Year’s Eve, 42% of fatal car crashes are alcohol-related, which is triple the rate of other days throughout the year. The Murfreesboro office of the Law Offices of John Day wants to help get you home safely. For the 8th consecutive year, we are offering Uber rides home on New Year’s Eve. Read on for details and the Uber code.
Unfortunately, Tennessee ranks 12th in the nation for drunk driving and New Year’s Eve is the worst day of the year for drunk driving accidents. At the Law Offices of John Day, our award-winning lawyers have seen the devastating effects of drunk driving accidents, so we want to prevent them. If you live in Murfreesboro and need a safe ride home on New Year’s Eve, we want to help. From 10 p.m to 1 a.m., you can use the code below to get a free Uber ride home (up to $25.00) within a 10-mile radius of Murfreesboro.*
To get your safe ride home, add the following voucher to your Uber account using this link: https://r.uber.com/rupx00FsNOc
If you drive intoxicated and cause an accident, you could hurt or kill yourself or someone else. Hurting or killing someone else is an incredibly heavy burden to carry with you the rest of your life. If you seriously injure someone else, you could face jail time from 2 to 12 years. If you kill someone, you could face prison time of up to 30 years. This level of jail time deeply affects lives – not just the person who is incarcerated but also their family members and friends. It can ruin a career and a person’s finances. While in jail you will miss out on birthdays, graduations, weddings, funerals, holidays, etc.
Even if you do not cause an accident, law enforcement always increases patrols and checkpoints on New Year’s Eve, so you could go to jail for driving while intoxicated. In addition to jail time, which could be up to 11 months and 29 days, you will be responsible for court fees and fines. Your license will be suspended for one year. You will be ordered to participate in and complete a drug and alcohol treatment program at your expense. You will be ordered by the court to install an ignition interlock on your vehicle at your expense. Between increased insurance premiums, fines, court costs, attorney fees, a drunk driving arrest and conviction can easily cost well over $10,000.
For all these reasons, please make a plan to get home safely BEFORE you start the celebration. We hope you will take advantage of our Safe Ride Home program not just for yourself but also for others on the road on New Year’s Eve. From all of us at The Law Offices of John Day, enjoy the holiday and we wish you health and success in 2025. As always, we are here if you need us.
